Order: Aligning With Divine Harmony (video)
ORDER: The ability to organize, balance, sequence, and adjust. The disciple JAMES, SON OF ALPHAEUS represents the harmony and balance available through centering our awareness. The month is SEPTEMBER, the corresponding color is OLIVE GREEN and the location is the navel.
Divine Order is a force for change – a force for good – a force for transformation. God has created and maintained an orderly universe – one where there are universal laws that we can learn and that we can use in our lives. Divine Order is a growth in consciousness and that just as each of us experiences growth in our own consciousness, as important as that is to us personally, we are a part of universal consciousness. Whenever we make a step forward personally, we are making a step for all mankind.
Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, wrote passionately about Spiritual Law and Order in his book The Twelve Powers. He spoke forcefully and eloquently about the need for a spiritually ordered life and society that respect individuals and provide freedom of education and religion. Divine Order is the purposeful and intentional development of our spiritual faculties. Those faculties that we are talking about include: Love, Faith, Strength, Wisdom, Power, Zeal, Life, Understanding, Imagination, Elimination, Will and this faculty of Order.
Divine Order is the balanced development of all of these attributes. Divine Order means that we don’t develop love without wisdom or that we don’t develop strength and power without love and wisdom. God’s plan for us is for unlimited good to be manifested or demonstrated by us in a Divine Order, at the right times, at the right places and in the right relationships. We live in an orderly universe where universal spiritual laws work.
Universal will is for the best possible outcome from any situation – and the Universal Mind of God will make sure we get opportunities to do what is ours to do… but many of us have found that it is easier to learn something the first time we have the opportunity… as opposed to the second time, or the third time.
In the 8th chapter of Matthew, Jesus said “Every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. A good tree can’t bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. By your fruits you shall know them.”
If our life does not look like we want it to look on the outside, then developing Divine Order on the inside will help. Emmet Fox, in his book The Sermon On the Mount, says that when there is anything in our life that is displeasing then we can be sure that the thing we must do is to work on our relationship with God and we must change our consciousness.
No matter what fruit is showing up – the solution is to turn to God – to put first things first. Jesus said it this way, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all else will be added to you.” If our life is great – developing constant awareness that we are one with God and changing our consciousness will make it even better. If our life is less than great – we can ‘do’ all day long, but until we develop our relationship with God and change our consciousness our life will not appreciably change.
Without doing our spiritual work every time we get rid of or take care of one bad fruit, another will take its place, every time we solve one problem another will take its place. Luckily God is always ready to be in relationship with us… we just have to develop the ability to be attentive to hear this inner voice.
God never says, well you should have come to me before you got yourself in this mess. God never says, well it’s too late now. God always says welcome my son, welcome my daughter.
But the real work of relationship and consciousness building requires more than just Sunday mornings only. It requires spending time with God – praying and then just being still – being silent. In The Twelve Powers of Man, Charles Fillmore said, “Divine mind rests in a perpetual Sabbath.”
We develop our relationship when we choose to have holy time, Sabbath time, with God. Developing our relationship with God and building our consciousness happens in our prayer time. It can also happen when we journal, when we spend time in classes or whenever we deeply examine our own beliefs and incorporate spiritual truth in our lives. Transformation occurs when we remember to say Thank You God, every time we think about God, every time we do something as a service to God, every time we express love, and every time we put God first in our life.
Another way to have Divine Order in our life is to claim it. How do we do that? One way is to use an affirmation such as “I am one with divine order.” We can write the affirmation, or we can say it. We can use it as we go into meditation. Whenever we are confronted with chaos, we can turn to our affirmation. It is no mistake that our thoughts create our destiny – that is Divine Order. The everlasting truth is if we want Divine Order all we have to do is claim it.
